Learn Blueprints by shipping a live app

Start with a clear map, run Service Card locally (TypeScript or Python), install skills and optionally MCP, write a Blueprint, deploy once, check Deploys in the Dashboard, then pick a next tutorial or template.

Prerequisites

  • A free Render account
  • Submit the Render Atlanta workshop form so you can be added to the shared workspace
  • A GitHub account
  • Git on your machine
  • TypeScript track: Node.js 20+
  • Python track: Python 3.10+
  • A coding agent (Cursor recommended; Claude Code or Codex also work)

Steps

  1. 01 Start here See what this workshop is in plain words, gather what you need, then submit the Atlanta workspace form. 4 min
  2. 02 The plan for this hour Open a live demo of the app, then see the short plan for this workshop. 3 min
  3. 03 Get the code Fork the firstdeploy-starter monorepo, clone your fork, and open the TypeScript or Python folder. 5 min
  4. 04 Run it locally Install dependencies for your track, start Service Card, click Ping, and confirm localhost works before any cloud steps. 6 min
  5. 05 What is Render? Learn what Render is, how it differs from your laptop, and the few Dashboard words you need today. 5 min
  6. 06 Install skills and (optional) MCP Install the Render plugin, glance at the skill catalog, then optionally create an API key and connect the Render MCP server. 10 min
  7. 07 Create a Blueprint Add a one-service render.yaml with rootDir for your track, commit, and push to your fork. 10 min
  8. 08 Deploy once (Dashboard or MCP) Ship Service Card once via Dashboard or MCP, then check Events, Deploys, and Logs in the Dashboard. 14 min
